T. Murdoch
StÝckel: Thomas Murdoch, Leith in Scotland, 1741 - 1791, since 1774 in Leith,

 

 

A pair of Scottish all-metal pistols by T. Murdoch
round barrels fluted at the breeches with octagonal cannon muzzles, smooth bores caliber .60 flintlock,  stock with ram's horn butt, the upper sides of the barrels engraved with floral and ornamental decoration. The lock shows signature TO MURDOCH, ball triggers, with belt hooks. Profusely engraved iron stocks with silver inlays.  Oval silver plates applied to the grips on both sides, the right side engraved with snake and three swords, probably coat of arms. Intricately crafted iron ramrods. Length of each 29.5 cm.

Thomas Murdoch (1741 - 1791), recorded as gunsmith in Leith and Doune. Renowned for his Highland pistols, a pair of which he bestowed upon the Prince of Wales in 1790.
