cased pair of officer's pistols, caliber .50 percussion smooth bore, 7"
octagonal barrel with top inscription LONDON and fixed front sight, no visible
serial numbers, the nicely engraved lock engraved MANTON & SON, case hardened
lock plates and hammers gone to a silvery finish mixed with brown patina; bores
are overall good, actions are crisp, flared wood ramrods are retained; wood stocks are both overall good with
scattered wear.
The pair is in a wooden show case with
green lining and compartments for
the pistols only, the exterior of the box shows scattered mars, scratches and
some slight graining; the hinges are tight and the key escutcheon
is ivory.
A fine set in a very good case

Cased pair of MANTON traveler's pistols, no visible serial numbers, cal. .60
smoothbore percussion or 23 bore, 5¾"
octagonal Damascus barrel marked JOSEPH MANTON, LONDON. German silver
bead front sight with notch rear sight on top of the frame. Mandatory London
proof marks on barrels and breeches. Finely and crisp checkered walnut
stocks. With belt hooks and swivel ramrods. Silver thumb pieces are blank.
In a typical English oak case lined with blue baize and partitioned to hold a
flask, bullet mold, oil can, cleaning rod, cap tin, combination barrel key and
nipple wrench and loose balls. One cleaning rod is missing.
CONDITION: Most of the finish is missing from the barrels and ramrods.
Casehardening of the breech plug is strong. Grips an actions are fine.
Case has scratches and dents on the outside with some minor chipping which is
acceptable after circa 150 years around. Hawksley
bag flask retains about half of its finish but has small dents on each side.
23-bore bullet mold retains most of its blue. Hawksley pewter oil can has minor
dents and scratches. Center compartment has broken loose from the bottom of the
case and is somewhat frayed on the top.
According to the seller is was part of Wm. Hancock Collection.
A not common set $5,000.

MANTON LONDON marked single shot pistol, cal. 41 percussion, 4" octagonal
barrel with front sight and brownish Damascus pattern, hammer is case hardened,
the frame and fixtures are German silver and slightly engraved, folding trigger
drops out while cocking the hammer, bright steel swivel ramrod with flat button
head, crisp checkered grip, the escutcheon is inscribed JMN. The rare
pistol is in fine condition and it is in good working order.
