A. W. LOOMIS LEBANON CT. turret &
under-hammer revolver, 1830s, caliber .34 percussion, 4-3/8" rifled part
round / part octagonal barrel with high front sight, six-shot hand revolved
cylinder, under-hammer used to cock and second trigger to fire the shot, maker's
inscription on breech and the rear sight on the very end. The # 107 is several
times stamped on various part of the revolver, The iron part shows no finish, but
it appears that there was non. Plain wooden grips.
Besides in Herschel Logan's book "The Underhammer Gun" there is no mentioning of the name. A similar but unmarked specimen is found in the book "The Stagecoach Collection". The former owner points out that it is probably a forerunner to Cochran's better constructed turret revolver.
The revolver is in good condition but probably unique. $10,000.
