Le "Qui est Qui": J. Kaufmann, 1890 - 1919, fabricant,

JULES KAUFMANN & Co. LIÈGE, 1897 dated, 6 shot double and single action self-ejecting revolver, matching serial # 846 on right side, front of cylinder underside of barrel pivot strap and front of ejector, caliber .38 S&W black powder, 5" heptagonal barrel with fixed front sight, V-notch rear sight on pivot of cylinder, mandatory Belgian proof- and inspection stamps, original blue finish, checkered wooden grips and lanyard ring. The revolver retains about 65% of its metal finish. The surfaces have scattered handling marks, some surface oxidation and most areas have shifted to a brown patina as photographed. There are patches of pitting and pin prick erosion.  Overall, this handgun rates in about Fair condition. The bore shows rifling with a few rusty patches and the grips are worn. The cylinder produces notable side to side play with rattle in the frame to barrel lockup.
This revolver has a very unique hinged barrel feature; in order to unload the revolver, one presses the underside lever in front of the trigger guard, which unlocks the barrel piece from the frame; the barrel swings up and pivots to a stopping point; continued pressure applied on the barrel hinges the mechanism back, which ejects the cartridges.
The revolver is very rare and it is only the second specimen I own in 51 years collecting.
