Hans Reckendorf's book, Die Militär-Faustfeuerwaffen des Königreiches Preussen, page 96 - 97, Pistol M 1878,
bolt action single shot pistol marked on left side V. Chr. Schilling Suhl 1878, big caliber 13.8mm metal cartridge, 7½" rifled barrel with fixed front sight, according to Hans Reckendorf's book there are only 2 pieces at the time known. The pistol was too late introduced to be a contender for the Mauser revolver 1878 and Reichsrevolver 1879. The cartouches on left side under lock are from the small Herzogtum Reuß-Schleiz, Herzog Heinrich XIV. 1867-1913. The rare pistol is in good working order and fine condition.
